Privacy at a glance
DStrak is a defence and strategic knowledge platform. We do not sell personal information. We collect only the information needed to operate the website, process research submissions, provide notifications when you opt in, protect the service and improve reliability.
DStrak is an independent educational platform. It is not a government, military, intelligence or defence-industry service.
Information you provide and information created by use
Research submissions
If you submit a research paper, we collect the information in the form: name, email address, affiliation, paper title, abstract, keywords, author biography and the submitted document. This is used for editorial review, communicating with you and, if approved, publishing the work.
Technical information
Our servers and service providers may process standard technical information such as IP address, browser or device type, operating system, requested pages, referring URL, timestamps and error or security logs.
Notifications
If you choose to allow notifications in the Android app, OneSignal processes device and push-subscription identifiers and notification-delivery information so that DStrak can send alerts. We do not use notifications to identify you by name unless you separately provide that information.
Offline model packs
The Android app can save 3D model files on your device after you open them. These files stay in the app's private storage and are used only to make future model views faster.
Purposes of processing
- Deliver DStrak content, search, research-submission and tracker features.
- Review, respond to and administer research submissions.
- Send push notifications only where notification permission has been granted.
- Maintain security, prevent misuse, diagnose failures and improve performance.
- Meet legal obligations and enforce our terms where necessary.
Permissions and device data
The app requests internet access to display DStrak content, network-state access to handle connectivity, notification permission so you can receive DStrak alerts, and legacy storage access only on older Android versions for user-requested downloads. You can decline notifications or change notification choices at any time in Android Settings.
The app is a WebView wrapper for DStrak. Website cookies and local browser storage may be used to keep the service working. The app does not access your contacts, call history, SMS messages, microphone, camera or precise location.
How long information is kept
We retain information only for as long as reasonably necessary for the purposes described in this policy, including editorial review, legal obligations, dispute resolution and service security. You can remove locally cached 3D model packs by clearing the DStrak app's storage in Android Settings.
We use reasonable technical and organisational safeguards, but no online service can guarantee absolute security. Please do not submit confidential, classified, operationally sensitive or personal information that is not necessary for your submission.
Control over your information
You may ask to access, correct or delete personal information that you submitted to DStrak, subject to legal and legitimate operational requirements. You can opt out of notifications in Android Settings and control browser cookies through your browser or device settings.
Not directed to children
DStrak is not directed to children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe that a child has provided personal information, contact us so we can review and take appropriate action.
